What is a disadvantage to creating a PowerPoint presentation using templates?
Templates that have too dark background with too dark text against it. Templates with too busy background - detracts or overpowers the text. The 'frames' of the template are too big and don't allow enough room for text. Trying to cram too much small text into the available box. The company logo or registration mark, etc., takes up too much of the slide.
Template not allowing a creative change to the content of the slide. Template used or created not relative to the content of the presentation. I've seen templates created with a misspelling, and it shows up in every slide, which detracts from the message, as well as the message of the presentation.
Two different kinds of templates:
Format: every PowerPoint presentation starts with a default format as shown on the Slide Master. MS also provides a substantial number of other templates under "themes."
Presentation: MS provides a number of content masters for things like business plans.
